Things to Consider When Choosing your Travel Partner

Travelling with someone has its ups and downs regardless of who it is but choosing the right person can make life easier for your trip. Whether it's 2 weeks travelling, 6 months or even a year, you will be with this person 24/7 so you need to be aware of your travelling partners personality, interests and abilities.

↝ You want to make the most out of your travels and go and enjoy what you want to do/see, whether that's visiting museums, hiking up the tallest mountains, or scuba diving in the worlds best hotspots. If you choose a partner wth opposite interests, one of you will have to compromise and occasionally it will be you, meaning you may miss out on some opportunities you've wanted to do for a long time.

↝ The last thing you want is cashing out all your money within the first week because you've been staying at luxury accommodation and eating at the top restaurants in the area. Everyone knows you have to have a realistic budget when travelling for a long period of time, so make sure your partner has a similar budget or AT LEAST understands yours may be lower than theirs and respects that. OR agree to have the same budget to save the hassle.

↝ Are they spontaneous or safe, active or relaxed, easygoing or uptight? Make sure your personalities are similar so it eases complications/decisions on the trip. You don't want a stressful trip, travelling should be the best time of your life, embracing a new culture...you don't want someone on the side of it ruining the whole experience.

↝ Choose someone who is low-maintenance and will make your travels a lot easier and exciting. Travelling is tiring, with early starts to catch those morning flights or long bus journeys, you don't want someone complaining in your ear the whole time, it will bring your mood down completely.

↝ Meeting people is on of the joys of travelling. You share travel stories; the ups and the downs of your trip, it's all a bit of a laugh sharing each others travel journeys. You meet these people in hostels, on trips, transport; you will tend to start a conversation with them and join forces for a day or a small time of your journey. Do you want to be stopped doing this by your partner not wanting to socialise or get involved.

↝ I've done it and it's a whole lot easier braving it all alone rather than having to agree with someone else with your day-to-day plans. Sometimes it is nice to experience new cultures, different people and beautiful countries by yourself.
